Our Position on Covid-19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 17, 2020 (Columbia, SC)

In light of the World Health Organization declaring COVID-19 a pandemic and Governor Henry McMaster declaring a state of emergency in South Carolina, the Palmetto State Chiropractic Association (PSCA) is issuing a statement reaffirming Chiropractic as an essential service. Chiropractic represents a necessary component for optimizing the health for many people of all ages and all walks of life in South Carolina. Timely and consistent access to chiropractic care is essential for the maintenance of the optimal expression of health of all persons seeking chiropractic care, particularly during times of physical and mental stress.

It should be understood that chiropractic does not claim to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition, including the Coronavirus or conditions caused by COVID19. The mission of chiropractic is to locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxation for the sole purpose of optimizing a person’s overall health.

The PSCA encourages jurisdictions at all levels to acknowledge and respect that chiropractic is a distinct essential service during this pandemic emergency. The citizens of South Carolina have the right to seek their own pathway for healthcare and the well-being of their families. For many South Carolina residents, that pathway includes regular chiropractic care to coordinate overall function including the immune response.

The PSCA would like to remind authorities that the offices of Doctors of Chiropractic should not be treated differently than the offices of any other essential healthcare service that supports a person’s overall health and wellbeing.

Sincerely,

Dwayne A. Hoskins, BA, DC
Executive Director
