A Dangerous Misconception ….
Sometime during the ages of man’s existence, he has been taught that he can gauge how healthy he is by how he feels. This is one of the most dangerous misconceptions man has ever learned to accept. Aches, pains and symptoms, in general, are not a definite indication of an unhealthy body, nor is the lack of symptoms and accurate indication of a healthy body.
For example, let us suppose you stopped at a restaurant and ordered a hamburger. The sandwich happens to be spoiled. On the way home, you begin to vomit and have diarrhea. You conclude that you are sick (unhealthy) and must somehow stop the vomiting and diarrhea.
In this situation are you actually unhealthy? The answer is no. Because your body is healthy it begins to clear out (by vomiting and diarrhea) the poison (spoiled meat) from your system as quickly as possible. You would be unhealthy if you could not quickly clear out the toxins from your body. The poison would then get locked into organs and muscles setting you up for more dangerous health problems, possibly even death.
Now let’s take a person who is subluxated. A subluxation occurs when a spinal bone misaligns and interferes with the transmission of mental impulses over the nerve pathways. The brain via the nervous system is responsible for controlling and coordinating all the functions of life. Therefore, if a subluxation exists, which interferes with the body’s ability to function properly, then your entire body will suffer.
The person who is walking around with a subluxation is being robbed of their vital ability to optimally control and regulate their own body. The loss of optimal function often happens so slowly and subtly that you are unaware that anything is wrong. In this all too common situation the subluxation has existed, weakening and hindering the body’s ability to properly function, for months or even years. At some point, long after the body has lost optimal control over the way it functions, the body will begin to give off symptoms or warning signs.
As an example, take a person who has just been to the doctor’s office for a routine checkup and was pronounced “healthy.” On the way home, he runs out of gas only a block away from the gas station. He pushes the car to the gas pump, and while standing there catching his breath he falls over with a heart attack. Just minutes earlier he had no detectable symptoms and was pronounced “healthy” by the physician. The fact is, he was unhealthy for a long time prior to his heart “giving out.”
This scenario is not as rare as you may think. Many of us personally know of an individual who was seemingly “well” one day only to become “mysteriously” sick the next day. Sickness, like cancer, heart problems, and internal organ problems, to name a few, just don’t happen overnight. However, sometimes we think that they do because there is often no perceivable symptom until the process has progressed to an advanced stage.
The analogies above are but a few of the many we could share with you. We hope this helps you understand why chiropractors refer to subluxations as the “Silent Killers.”
Our point is vital and must be made abundantly clear. A lack of symptoms is a very dangerous way of deciding whether you are in good health. Symptoms, or a lack thereof, are an even poorer way of determining the need for chiropractic care.
There is only one way to know if you need chiropractic care or not; that is to be checked by a person who is professionally trained to locate, analyze and correct this very devastating form of interference to the nervous system …… that person is your chiropractor.
